An impressive pedigree was to the fore at Ararat where the Gerry Harvey-bred and raced Apparatus made a successful debut on Saturday.
The Ben, JD and Will Hayes-trained three-year-old delivered in fine style over 1100 metres in the hands of Matthew Cartwright.
A New Zealand-bred son of Trapeze Artist, the chestnut broke well to sit on the leader’s quarters and despite racing greenly in the straight he still forged clear to score by two and a-quarter lengths.
Apparatus was originally offered at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was passed in after failing to meet his A$350,000 reserve.
He is the first living foal of the unraced Congrats mare Royal Residence who is a half-sister to the G1 Chipping Norton Stakes winner and sire Casino Prince and the stakes winners Tagus, Lord Of The Land and Metallurgical.
Another sibling is the dam of the multiple Group 2 winner and G1 Golden Slipper Stakes runner-up Best Of Bordeaux and the G1 JJ Atkins winner Price Fawaz also features on the pedigree page.
Royal Residence also has an unraced two-year-old son of Swiss Ace and last season produced a brother to Apparatus and is now in foal to Zoustar.
