The Tarzino Trophy Daffodil Race Day launches Group One racing for the season, bringing a star-studded line up of thoroughbreds to Hawke’s Bay Racing to compete for the prestigious stakes on offer throughout the much-anticipated meeting. 

Traditionally known as the Challenge Stakes, and previously sponsored by former Westbury stallion Makfi, the Group One feature race – the Tarzino Trophy - is run as a Weight-For-Age race over 1400m with the sponsors of the race - The Tarzino Syndicate – further boosting the stakes by offering a service to Tarzino to the breeder of the winner of the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy.

The Listed El Roca Trophy is a 1200m race for three-year-old’s and in 2017 became affiliated with the late Sir Colin meads. In honour of the New Zealand rugby legend the Listed El Roca – Sir Colin Meads Trophy is run as Race 5 on the 10-race card as a tribute to the great man who wore the number 5 jersey in many of his tests for the All Blacks.

The first series of Hawke’s Bay Racing’s Triple Crown, Westbury Stud has partnered with the racing club and the TAB to celebrate Daffodil Day making the Tarzino Trophy Race Day a charity meeting with 100% of proceeds to be donated to the local Cancer Society.
