Louisville has given ample evidence that he is set for a lucrative campaign.
Bred and raced by Gerry Harvey, the son of Westbury Stud resident Redwood made an impressive opening to his preparation on Friday evening when he scored over 1250 metres at Canterbury Park.
The Chris Waller-trained five-year-old settled third last on the rail and once rider James McDonald got him into clear air 200 metres from home he accelerated sharply to down his Benchmark 72 rivals with a good degree of authority.
“He’s a really nice horse and had trialled very well,” stable representative Damien Fitton said.
“He had thrived since then and he’s going to continue to improve.”
He has now collected a brace of wins and five placings from eight appearances after beginning his career with two thirds and a runner-up finish from the Byerley Park stable of Shaun and Emma Clotworthy.
“He’s going to get over more ground given he’s by Redwood, and confidence is key and he’s going to get plenty from this run,” Fitton said.
Louisville is out of the Rock Of Gibraltar mare Edie, who is a daughter of the G1 Melbourne Cup and G1 Auckland Cup winner Jezabeel.
Six of Edie’s foals have been successful and includes stakes performer Lucky Edie and she produced a brother to Louisville last season.
