Offshore Successes for Swiss Ace

Westbury Stud stalwart Swiss Ace starred on overseas shores with a homebred winning double in Hong Kong and success in Singapore.

His sons Flying Ace and Loyal Bo Bo were to the fore at Sha Tin on Sunday night while Sabah Ace was back to his best at Kranji the evening before.

Flying Ace won for the sixth time in his 18-start career when he prevailed in a driving finish over 1200 metres for trainer David Hall and rider Zac Purton.

Bred by Gerry Harvey, he was a Taupo trial winner as Seascape from Alex Oliveira’s stable before his sale to Hong Kong interests.

He is a son of the late stakes winning Danehill Dancer mare Dancescape and she was a half-sister to Australian Group winners Blur and Shrewd Rhythm.

Loyal Bo Bo made it two wins on the bounce when he was in a league of his own over 1400 metres for the trainer-jockey combination of Frankie Lor and Hugh Bowman.

Also bred by Harvey, he was another private purchase after winning both of his trials for trainer Stephen Marsh.

He is a half-brother to Miss Cartier, who has been successful on five occasions and the El Roca mare also has a black type placing to her credit in the Listed Flying Handicap.

Their dam is the More Than Ready mare Sacred Vow, who is from the immediate family of the G2 Great Northern Guineas winner Swissta.

She has produced another son and a daughter of Swiss Ace in the last two seasons and is back in foal to the Group 1-winning son of Secret Savings.

Meanwhile, Sabah Ace returned to winning ways in fine style at Kranji to bring black-type targets into play.

The Westbury Stud graduate had won four of his first five starts in Singapore before losing his way, but he bounced back to top form for trainer David Kok and rider Vlad Duric when tackling 1400 metres for the first time.

The son of Swiss Ace advanced his overall record to five victories and a placing from 12 appearances and further success beckons now he is back in top form.

“He’s better going up to the 1400m. It was perfect for us when the pair went fast in front,” Duric said.

Kok agreed and will now look to the G3 Silver Bowl (1400m) on June 9 and the G2 Stewards’ Cup (1600m) on June 30 with Sabah Ace.

He was purchased out of Westbury’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft at Karaka for $50,000 and is a son of the unraced Danehill mare Show Exhibit.

She has a perfect record at stud with all 10 of her foals to race successful and has an unraced two-year-old by Tarzino.

Show Exhibit has a strong international pedigree and is from a half-sister to the G3 Beresford Stakes winner and Group 1 performer Castle Gandolfo.

The second dam Golden Oriole is a sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and Champion Sire El Gran Senor, whose brother Try My Best won the G1 Newmarket Dewhurst Stakes.
