Star Performance from Reliable Man’s Daughter

Renaissance Woman looks set for a lucrative campaign following a superb second-up strike at Randwick on Saturday to further her black type record.

The Gerry Harvey-bred and sold daughter of Reliable Man produced an irresistible finish to claim top honours in the G3 Angst Stakes over 1600 metres for trainer Bjorn Baker and rider Josh Parr.

Renaissance Woman had resumed from a three-month break to finish fifth in her seasonal return and was expected to produce a bold showing with that run under her belt.

“I was very confident she would run well and it was a great ride by Josh,” Baker said.

Renaissance Woman settled midfield one off the fence before improving three wide at the top of the straight and she let down impressively to overpower her opposition.

“She was explosive. I'm so happy to win on her, she's just a lovely mare now,” Parr said.

“She's taken that progression from three-year-old filly to a really strong mare.

“To sprint like that twice at the mile in this preparation, I think, is a big feather in Bjorn’s cap and his team's cap because they've kept her sharp enough to be able to show that.

“She’s as fit as a trout and she ran through the line hard.”

Renaissance Woman claimed the G3 Ethereal Stakes at last year’s Melbourne spring carnival and subsequently campaigned in Queensland.

She won the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet before finishing runner-up in the G2 The Roses and was spelled after running fourth in the G1 Queensland Oaks.

Renaissance Woman was a $250,000 purchase for Attunga Stu when offered at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Westbury Stud.

She is a daughter of the Fastnet Rock mare Mrs Kennedy, who has a yearling colt by Reliable Man, and she is a half-sister to the G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Mrs Onassis and the G3 How Now Stakes winner Miss Judgement.

The latter is the dam of the G3 Percy Sykes winner and multiple Group 1 placegetter Missrock and the G2 Challenge Stakes winner Passive Aggressive.
