Trainer Rob Patterson has his sights set on black type for his talented El Roca mare Nom De Plume following her success at Trentham on Saturday.
The Gerry Harvey-bred mare emphasised her versatility when she reveled in the soft going to easily account for her Rating 75 rivals over 1600 metres after posting her first three wins on good footing.
“The ground doesn’t matter to her and I was expecting her to go well and we’ll be looking at the Trentham Stakes (Gr.3, 2100m) in January for her now,” Patterson said.
“She has always showed a lot and is just starting to mature now.”
Nom De Plume was tardily away and settled at the tail of the field under appreciate Ciel Butler.
The five-year-old was still well back the top of the straight before she lengthened stride to prove far superior in the closing 200 metres.
“She’s a very relaxed mare and it was a great ride. Ciel is going well and she’s very patient and got to the outside,” Patterson said.
She has been well-travelled with her career taking in two campaigns in Queensland where she won as a three-year-old over a middle distance at the Sunshine Coast and in two runs earlier this year finished runner-up over a mile at Doomben.
Nom De Plume was passed in when offered by Westbury Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale and Patterson secured her for $20,000 when reoffered at the Ready to Run Sale.
She is out of the unraced Encosta De Lago mare Lago De Plume, also the dam of Swiss Ace’s multiple winning daughters Feather Your Nest and Lago Di Braies.
Lago De Plume boasts an international pedigree that features the champion European stayer and multiple Group 1 winner Stradivarius and the G1 Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist.
