Rheinberg’s Winning Roll Continues

Rheinberg continued his march through the classes in Victoria when he completed a hat-trick of wins at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Gerry Harvey-bred son of Swiss Ace had previously been successful at Sale and Sandown to remain unbeaten this preparation to take his overall record to three wins and four minor place finishes from eight appearances.

The five-year-old began his career with Matamata trainer Cody Cole and placed twice from three starts before Lindsay Park and partners purchased the gelding.

Rheinberg raced on the pace at Caulfield before he took control of the race early in the run home and stuck grimly to his task when hotly pursued in the closing stages of the 1400 metre contest.

“It was probably a lot faster tempo than we expected and never got cover and had to bring himself up and hit the front a long way from home,” said Ben Hayes, who trains the gelding with brothers JD and Will.

“They were coming at him late and it was closer than we thought, but he did a great job.

“We’ll see how he pulls up and probably won’t be going any further than 1400 metres, but there will be a nice Benchmark 84 coming up in the next couple of weeks and we’ll keep taking him through the grades.”

Regular rider Michael Dee was delighted with Rheinberg’s performance and praised his courage.

“It was a good, tough effort and he’s still coming on fitness wise,” he said. “I’m sure there is still plenty more in store for him.”

Rheinberg is a son of the Snitzel mare Schiffer, who won on two occasions and ran third in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, and she has a yearling colt by Swiss Ace and is in foal to El Roca.

Schiffer is a half-sister to the multiple Group 3 winner and Group 1 performer Eric The Eel-Tourbillon Diamond (HK).
