Rheinberg’s Hot run continues

Win machine Rheinberg remained unbeaten this preparation with another typically gallant performance on Sunday.

The Gerry Harvey-bred son of Swiss Ace was successful over 1400 metres in Benchmark 84 company on the Hillside track at Sandown to post his fourth victory on the bounce and sixth from 11 career appearances.

Rheinberg travelled boldly on the leader’s quarters for rider Michael Dee and the five-year-old finished determinedly to continue his winning roll.

“I thought it was a great ride by Michael and the horse stuck his big head out, it’s a big thrill with a lot of (Group 1 winner) Mr Brightside’s owners in him,” co-trainer Ben Hayes said.

Rheinberg started his career from Cody Cole’s Matamata stable and placed twice from three starts before Lindsay Park and partners purchased the gelding.

“We’ll see how he pulls up after this and there are some nice Listed 1400 metre races coming up,” Hayes said.

“He’s doing his job so well and everyone is having a great time, he’s a really happy horse at the moment.”

Expatriate New Zealand jockey Dee echoed Hayes’ comments.

“All credit to the horse, he’s absolutely flying and doesn’t win by wide margins,” he said.

“He shows tremendous gate speed and always travels well and I nursed him as long as possible and the go for him and he tries so hard.”

Rheinberg is a son of the Snitzel mare Schiffer, a two-time winner and ran finished third in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, and she has a yearling colt by Swiss Ace and is in foal to El Roca.

Schiffer is a half-sister to the multiple Group 3 winner and Group 1 performer Eric The Eel-Tourbillon Diamond (HK).
