Tuchel so nearly added further top-flight honours for El Roca’s associate sire Redwood when he finished a close second in the Hong Kong Derby.
The Harvey-bred and Westbury sold four-year-old found the line strongly under jockey Ryan Moore, only to come up shy by a short head.
Trained by John Size, Tuchel has now fashioned the excellent record of four wins and five placings from his 11 appearances.
He was a $130,000 Karaka purchase for the Hong Kong-based Simple Bloodstock Services and is a son of the Testa Rossa mare Trista Rossa, who is out of Sir Tristram’s stakes-winning daughter Altrista.
Trista Rossa has a valuable yearling sister to Tuchel and is back in foal to Redwood, whose profile has been further listed this season through the multiple Group 1 winning deeds of Sharp ‘N’ Smart and the Group 2 Auckland Cup hero Platinum Invador.
