One of Westbury Stud graduate’s misfortune in Singapore on Saturday evening proved to be another’s good luck.
The Donna Logan-prepared Rocky, a son of El Roca, won the Class 4 event over 1700 metres at Kranji only to be relegated with the Redwood gelding Red Dragon promoted to first.
Trained by Mahadi Taib, he has now won four times and was ridden in his latest victory by CC Wong.
The son of Redwood was bred and sold by Westbury Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale to Steve Ramsay for $20,000 and subsequently made his way to Singapore after realising $45,000 at the Ready to Run Sale where he was offered by Riverrock Farm.
Red Dragon is a son of the late Danehill mare Wandane, who won on two occasions in Australia, and she is out of a sister to the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner and successful sire Marauding.
It is also the family of the four-time Group 1 winner Sacred Choice.
Eight of Wandane’s nine foals to race have been successful, including the dam of the Listed Albury Gold Cup winner Harmony Rose.
