Wootton Bassett’s Son Leads The Way

A colt by Wootton Bassett was the star of the show for Westbury Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Lot 785 was a much-admired individual and sold accordingly with Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds and the Randwick Bloodstock Agency outlaying A$425,000 for the youngster.

He is a son of the unraced Swiss Ace mare Pink Petals whose half-sister Moreish was successful in the G3 Western Australian Oaks and also won twice at Listed level.

The family roll of honour also features the multiple stakes winner Palazzo Pubblico and her daughter Palazzo Spirit won the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes.

A son of much heralded first season sire Home Affairs was the subject of a spirited bidding battle before he was knocked down for A$380,000.

The final blow on Lot 501 came from the combined forces of champion trainer Chris Waller and Hermitage Thoroughbreds.

The colt is a son of the Swiss Ace mare Improvement, who was successful on four occasions up to 1400 metres and was stakes placed.

Her pedigree page includes the G1 BTC Cup winner Famous Seamus and Group winners Ferragamo, Casino Seventeen and Ahdashim.

Te Akau supremo David Ellis was taken by Savabeel’s daughter, Lot 134, and he went to A$350,000 to ensure she returned home to New Zealand.

The filly is out of the Duelled mare Alezan, who was successful up to 1800 metres and has made a bright start to her breeding career.

Her son Lowry has been a three-time winner and finished third in the G3 Waikato Cup while his sister Princess Lowry placed at Group 2 level in the Royal Stakes and Eight Carat Classic.

International performance was added to the pedigree through South African galloper King Of Pain, successful in the G1 Clairwood Gold Challenge.

A Pierata colt was another to sell well and he’ll be joining the Queensland stable of Tony and Maddysen Sears.

Lot 661 was knocked down for A$200,000 to Sears Racing, Monarch Racing, Paul Moroney and Catheryne Bruggeman and is the first foal of the I Am Invincible mare Miroslava.

The second dam Slow The Flow was a multiple winner and Group placegetter and also the family of the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner and sire Catbird.
