Powerhouse sprinter Wewillrock was again at his dashing best at Te Rapa where he put away his open class rivals with authority over 1200 metres.
The Westbury Stud graduate is a son of resident stallion El Roca, who also sired runner-up Rocababy and the Gerry Harvey-bred third placegetter Martell.
Trained by Guy Lowry and Leah Zydenbos, Wewillrock was quickly into his work from the inside barrier to make the running under apprentice Liam Kauri.
The six-year-old slipped clear into the straight and was never in danger from that point, coasting to his fourth victory on the course and eighth overall win from 23 starts.
“We’re just taking it one race at a time with him and he probably won’t be in for much longer before he has a break,” Lowry said.
“He’s the sort of horse that enjoys the soft tracks, but not heavy. Either side of spring and autumn is his time.”
Wewillrock has also made his presence felt at black type level with placings at Group 3 level in the Almanzor Trophy and Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes and in the Listed City of Napier Sprint and Listed Bob Charley Stakes.
He is a son of the Strategic mare Princess Mechella, who was successful on two occasions and is a daughter of the multiple stakes winner Wazawatsyn.
Wewillrock was purchased out of Westbury’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Lowry for $35,000 and is raced by Waikato Stud’s Mark Chittick and Hawke’s Bay brothers Paul and Mark Apatu.
