Elson Boy’s winning roll continued at Rosehill where he again ran his rivals into the deck.
The four-year-old son of Westbury Stud’s El Roca stretched his purple patch of form to six wins on the bounce with an emphatic victory over 1300 metres on Saturday at the expense of his Benchmark 78 rivals.
“I just hope it keeps going. It’s been hard at home because we’ve had no track to work him on,” trainer Dar Lunn said.
“They’re putting in a new polytrack at Dubbo and I haven’t been able to get on the grass. I’ve just been working him on a little canter track.
“But he’s the type of horse that you don’t have to do a great deal with, he’s just a pleasure to have around.”
Elson Boy was ridden for the third consecutive time by apprentice Chelsea Hillier and she had the gelding freewheeling at the head of affairs.
They sprinted clear 300 metres from home and comfortably held all challenges at bay for the gelding’s ninth win from 22 appearances.
“That’s so good, I’m just so lucky to be associated with a great trainer, some fantastic owners and a really, really good horse.
“He’s unreal, he just keeps going. As soon as he hears other horses coming, he finds more. He hasn’t really been tested either, so who knows how good he is?
“He was a lot fresher than he has been in the last two runs, so I was worried he might go a bit strong, but he was beautiful, every bit as good as he was last start.”
Elson Boy was bred by Mark and Lorraine Forbes and was originally sold through their Kiltannon Stables draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $20,00 to Hong Kong interests.
He subsequently changed hands for A$6000 at the 2021 Inglis Digital September Sale.
Elson Boy is a son of the Pour Moi mare Caramia who is from the family of the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winners Media Sensation and Dorabella.
El Roca was also on the board at Bendigo where his son My Roca Fella was a runaway winner
The Gerry Harvey-bred representative is prepared at Mornington by John McArdle and he never gave his rivals a look in on Saturday over 1600 metres.
Apprentice Lauren Burke took the three-year-old to the front and he was travelling easily near the turn and with minimum encouragement he surged clear to win by a widening 10 lengths.
It was a richly deserved victory as the gelding had placed six times in his previous nine appearances.
Mr Roca Fella was purchased by Redgum Racing for A$20,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO In Training Sale where he was offered by Baramul Stud.
He is a son of the Encosta De Lago mare Given With Love, who has a yearling daughter of Tarzino and is back in foal to El Roca.
Given With Love is out of the Listed Morphettville Guineas winner Presenting and the family of the multiple Group 1-winning sprinter Bentley Biscuit and the G1 Stradbroke Handicap winner and champion sire Thorn Park.
