Reliable Man was in the thick of the action at Matamata on Sunday with a brace of winners.
The Westbury Stud sire’s two-timer was completed by the Gerry Harvey-bred and raced Tregor, who followed the earlier lead of Clew Bay.
Reliable Man’s associate stallion Swiss Ace also enjoyed further success in Hong Kong where Harold Win struck another winning blow.
Tregor is trained on the course by Jim Collett and was partnered by daughter Samantha, who has recently returned from Queensland where she rode more than 150 winners with six at stakes level.
The four-year-old was third-up in his preparation and following a previous fourth at Te Rapa over 1300 metres there was a sense of timing about the gelding in his step up to a mile.
He raced in midfield before improving widest near the turn and finished off resolutely in the run home for his second win from 12 starts with seven placings emphasising his consistency.
Tregor is a son of the late Torlundy, an unraced daughter of Zabeel and the two-time Group 1 winner Tartan Tights, and a half-sibling to five winners.
The Stephen Marsh-trained Clew Bay had earlier been a deserved maiden winner over 1600 metres.
Placed at her two previous runs, the Stephen Marsh-trained three-year-old was taken to the front by Michael McNab and, after surging clear 600 metres from home, stuck grimly to her task in the run home.
A $20,000 New Zealand Bloodstock National Online Yearling Sale buy, Clew Bay was bred by Jamieson Park and is out of a half-sister to the two-time Group 1 winner Historian.
Meanwhile, Swiss Ace’s son Harold Win continues to do his now retired dam proud.
He is out of the Belong To Me mare Musically and eight of her foals have been successful and includes Harold Win’s brother January, a stakes winner in Singapore.
Musically, whose last two foals are Swiss Ace colts, is a half-sister to the G2 Yallambee Classic winner Magically.
Westbury sold Harold Win through their Ready to Run Sale draft to Upper Bloodstock for $255,000 and he’s now a two-time winner for trainer Francis Lui with apprentice Jerry Chau guiding him to his latest victory over 1400 metres.
