Tarzino 4YO On Way to Higher Grade

Promising four-year-old Kilna advanced his record in style on his home track at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

The David Vandyke-trained son of Westbury Stud resident Tarzino placed in his first four starts and, following a break, won both of his trials before he successfully resumed on the course last month.

He made the step up to 1600 metres in style to justify his hot favouritism in the hands of apprentice Jasper Franklin.

Kilna drifted to a clear last before he made a move 700 metres from home and was widest on the hone bend.

The gelding lengthened stride effortlessly to surge clear and romped to victory by a widening three lengths.

Kilna was purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale in 2022 by Vandyke and Hughes Bloodstock, who secured him out of Wentwood Grange’s draft for $85,000.

He is a son of the Pentire mare Stunner, a half-sister to the G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive and also the family of the G1 Flight Stakes winner Cheeky Choice.

Also on the pedigree page is G1 Queensland Oaks heroine Gypsy Goddess, a daughter of Tarzino trained by Vandyke, who bought Kilna’s brother at Karaka last month for $25,000.
