Lightly tried Tarzino four-year-old Kadavar continued his stellar run of form at Randwick on Saturday to successfully bridge the gap to stakes company.
The in-form son of the Westbury Stud resident won his third race on the bounce over 2400 metres with a determined display to claim the thick end of the stake in the A$200,000 Listed Christmas Cup.
Trained by Chris Waller, the Gerry Harvey-bred Kadavar began his winning sequence at Rosehill before a successful visit to Caulfield and was victorious again on his return home to Sydney.
“He has turned into a winner, that’s for sure. He has been up and down the countryside, but he is enjoying his racing and he keeps going to another level each time he runs,” Waller said.
“I think he will get to a higher-level. That will do for this prep and if you have got a good stayer, there are some good races for them.”
Kadavar raced one off the fence in midfield before rider Kerrin McEvoy sent him forward down the back straight to sit in fourth spot and the gelding held a sustained finish to take his record to six wins from 13 outings.
“I knew he would run the trip well and he got out into a nice spot and the horse in front of me wasn’t really travelling and taking me along and was almost getting detached from the horses I thought were going to be hardest to beat,” McEvoy said.
“I was able to come out, make a bit of a move and be a bit closer around the back lane and he showed a good attitude when I asked him.”
Raced by Neville Morgan and David Devine, Kadavar was purchased out of Westbury’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales for $300,000 with Waller and Mulcaster Bloodstock signing the ticket.
He is a son of Arapaho Miss who was quality performer, winning the G1 VRC Oaks and has been outstanding at stud with her daughter Miami Bound also winning the Flemington fillies’ Classic.
She is also the dam of the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes winner Da Little Engine.
Arapaho Miss has an unraced two-year-old colt by Reliable Man and had a filly by Tarzino last year before a return visit.
