Stakes Success for Swiss Ace Mare

Talented mare Niance added black type to her burgeoning record when she produced an effortless first-up winning display at Caulfield.

The Gerry Harvey-bred daughter of resident Westbury Stud stallion Swiss Ace was returning from a six-month break in Saturday’s Listed Alinghi Stakes over 1100 metres.

Her victory spoke volumes for the conditioning skills of her Cranbourne trainer Grahame Begg, who had her in prime order of the back of a lead-up trial.

Niance was quickly into stride to sit outside the leader and was far too good in the run home in the hands of regular rider Jordan Childs.

“He rode her beautifully, she’s got good speed and was travelling very easily coming to the turn and let down really well,” Begg said.

“She’s got a good record and Ace Bloodstock sourced her out of New Zealand with Gerry Harvey still in the ownership.”

Niance was a winner in four starts for Shaun and Emma Clotworthy before she relocated to Victoria and will be chasing further stakes success this preparation.

“We feel she is best when kept fresh and she’ll get a good level. She’ll got to the How Now (G3, 1200m) next, that looks the ideal race for her,” Begg said.

Niance has now won five of her nine starts and Childs has been aboard in all of her Australian successes.

“Her record last campaign was very good and she’s in for another good preparation,” he said.

“It was a nice effort and he’s got a really good turn of foot.”

She is the first foal of the Red Giant mare Cosmetic, whose dam is a half-sister to the G2 Apollo Stakes winner Alma’s Fury and the G3 Doomben Classic winner Enforced.
