Progressive three-year-old Shot Of Whiskey remained unbeaten this preparation following his commendable performance at the Sunshine Coast.
The Gerry Harvey-bred son of Spirit Of Boom gave weight to his older opposition over 1000 metres on Sunday to continue his golden run of form for Eagle Farm trainers Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted.
Shot Of Whiskey had successfully resumed at Toowoomba earlier this month and, off the back of that win, was sent out a short-priced favourite and he duly delivered under 59kg.
“When he steps up in class he’ll drop in weight and that will continue to bring out the best in him,” Hoysted said.
The New Zealand-bred gelding stepped well and settled in fifth spot under rider Boris Thornton and strode to the front soon after straightening for the third win of his nine-start career.
“We made use of his gate and wanted to take a sit and he got there early,” Hoysted said.
“He wandered about a bit so there’s still improvement to come from him.”
Shot Of Whiskey was sold by Westbury Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to Proven Thoroughbreds and the O’Dea and Hoysted team for A$150,000.
He is the first foal of the Redoute’s Choice mare Flower Of Love, a two-time winner, whose Reliable Man filly Eternal Romance is an unraced juvenile filly having sold to Western Australia’s Pearce Racing for $75,000 at Karaka last year.
The dam has a yearling daughter of Redwood and is in foal to Tarzino.
Flower Of Love is out of a half-sister to the G3 Frank Packer Plate winner Carnegie House and to the G3 David Jones Cup winner Spurtonic while the third dam is the multiple Group 2 winner and Group 1 placegetter Startling Lass.
