Farm graduate Chiron turned his form around at Sha Tin to open his winning account in Hong Kong.
Trained by David Hayes, the son of Makfi had placed three runs back before an unplaced effort and relished the step up to 1650 metres to score in the hands of Derek Leung.
“I must say Derek put on a masterclass there. He followed Hugh Bowman on (favourite) El Valiente and then when he went past him,” Hayes told the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Chiron was bred by Peter and Annabelle Johnson and was purchased out of Westbury’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft for $60,000 by bloodstock agent Andrew Williams.
His dam Inara Belle is a half-sister by Elusive Quality to former Champion juvenile Ruud Awakening, whose five wins included the G1 Diamond Stakes and the Listed Karaka Million.
