Savabeel’s Son Lights Up Ring

An athletic son of champion sire Savabeel provided early fireworks for Westbury Stud on the opening day of New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale at Karaka.

Lot 13 had breezed up in 10.59s and the good looking two-year-old was knocked down to Te Akau chief David Ellis for $330,000.

“He’s a classic son of Savabeel, breezed up well, and Mark Walker was particularly taken with his physique and everything about him,” Ellis said.

“We love the pedigree of Savabeel over a Testa Rossa mare, have had success with it previously at the highest level, and we think he has the makings of a really nice three-year-old type.”

Ellis was referring to champion two-year-old Cool Aza Beel, winner of the G1 Sistema Stakes and the Listed Karaka Millions before he retired to Newhaven Park in New South Wales.

Te Akau’s Karaka purchase is out of Jolie Blonde, whose four career victories featured success in the Listed Hareeba Stakes.

The third dam is the former top Australian two-year-old Isolda, successful in the G1 Champagne Stakes and a four-time placegetter at the top level.

Also featuring on the pedigree page are the Group 2 winners Baller and Mahuta, both Group 1 placed sprinters.

There was no surprise that the well-related Lot 10 was secured for $175,000 by Graeme Rogerson.

With wife Debbie, he trains the filly’s brother Domain Ace, who won the Listed Star Way Stakes last season and most recently the son of Swiss Ace finished third in the G2 New Zealand 2000 Guineas.

They are out of the Hussonet filly Internet, a granddaughter of the multiple Group 2 winner Staging, who is a half-sister to the two-time South African Group 1 winner Delago Deluxe.

A son of Redwood, Lot 148, took the eye of international bloodstock agent Justin Bahen who signed the ticket at $160,000.

The colt is a son of the Redoute’s Choice mare Roses All The Way who is a three-quarter sister to the multiple Group 1 winner Lotteria.

It is also the family of farm graduate The Inferno, a former Singapore Horse of the Year who won the G2 McEwen Stakes after relocating to Australia.
