Sage Advice Rings True at Trentham

Words of wisdom from leading jockey Matthew Cameron paved the way for the first winning strike of Grey Invador’s fledgling career at Trentham.

He had ridden the son of Westbury Stud’s Reliable Man at his previous appearance at Wanganui where he finished sixth over a middle distance.

Following that performance, Cameron provided trainer and part-owner Brendon McDermott with valuable insights.

“He had been over-racing and Matthew said to bring him back to a mile and put blinkers on and he would be a lot better,” McDermott said.

That proved to be a recipe for success with Grey Invador quickly into stride to settle in behind the pace for rider Ashvin Mudhoo.

They angled off the fence before the turn and the three-year-old finished resolutely to account for his older rivals.

“He’s a big horse and still a year away, I’m not sure what we’ll do now but he did seem to get through the ground okay,” McDermott said.

Grey Invador is a son of the Montjeu mare My Game who is a sister to the Listed Pegasus Handicap winner Lady Zaffira and the family Royal Magic, the dual Group 1 winner of the Queensland Oaks and Queensland Derby.
