Lekvarte’s trademark turn of foot from back in the field powered her to another black-type victory at Randwick on Saturday.
The Westbury Stud graduate produced an electric finish to add to her tally of Group 3 wins in the Angst Stakes over 1600 metres following previous successes in the Aspiration Handicap and Belle of the Turf Stakes.
Trained by Joseph Pride, Lekvarte had finished well when resuming to finish fourth in the G2 Golden Pendant over 1400 metres at Rosehill and she relished the second-up jump to 1600 metres.
The good-looking grey daughter of Westbury resident Reliable Man settled at the tail of the field before picking up ground across the top under rider Josh Parr.
Lekvarte was into the clear 300 metres from home, and she turned on the afterburners to reel in her rivals.
“There’s a fair few things to consider now and probably a trip to Melbourne,” Pride said.
“It’s only a couple of weeks away from the Group 1 for the mares and I’d probably like to give her a go at that, to be fair.
“It’s a good chance she’ll be at Flemington (for the Empire Rose Stakes).
“She's a lovely mare and always has been.”
“It has taken her a little while to get to stakes grade, but as an older mare the way she's racing now you'd love to think there's another season in her.”
Lekvarte was bred by Stewart Hume and sold to BK Racing & Breeding and Andrew Williams Bloodstock at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $210,000.
She is a half-sister to the multiple winner and stakes performer Total Power with their dam the Encosta De Lago mare Plumm.
They are out of Madame Plume was successful on seven occasions and finished runner-up in the G1 South Australian Oaks.
