Redwood’s gifted son Tuchel produced another sterling performance at Sha Tin on Sunday evening to further his impressive record in Hong Kong.
The Westbury Stud-bred and sold four-year-old was saddled with 61kg over 1600 metres and he accounted for Flaming Rabbit, a dual European Group winner who was in receipt of 5.5kg.
“It was a very good effort, they made him chase a long way from home with the big weight,” rider Zac Purton told the Hong Kong Jockey Club website.
“I thought I had Flaming Rabbit easily at the 200 metres but, with a 100 to go, I was gassed and it was just his class and heart that got him through.”
It was the fifth win of the gelding’s 13-start career, which also includes a gallant second three runs back in the Hong Kong Derby.
He also completed a winning double for conditioner John Size who is eight wins clear in his bid for a record 12th Hong Kong Trainers’ Championship.
Tuchel was a graduate of Westbury’s class of 2020 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale where he was purchased by the Hong Kong-based Simple Bloodstock Services for $130,000.
He is a son of the Testa Rossa mare Trista Rossa, who is out of Sir Tristram’s stakes-winning daughter Altrista.
Trista Rossa has a yearling sister to Tuchel and is back in foal to Redwood, who is enjoying a grand season as the sire of multiple Group 1 winner Sharp ‘N’ Smart, Group 2 Auckland Cup winner Platinum Invador and rising star Solidify.
