Bargain buy Step Aside had no trouble making a substantial deposit to his bank account with a dominant winning performance at Rosehill.
The son of Tarzino’s associate stallion Redwood triumphed on Saturday for trainer Chris Waller and rider Zac Lloyd over 1300 metres off the back of a sound third on the course at his previous appearance.
Step Aside tracked the pace on the fence before he was into the clear 250 metres off the post and finished too well for his Benchmark 78 rivals.
“It tastes pretty good the bread and butter on Saturday in Sydney,” Waller said.
“He has earned just over $80,000 for winning this one, which takes you a long way. If he can win another one, he has done a great job.”
Winning rider Zac Lloyd said the gelding filled him with confidence heading to the barrier.
“I have never sat on him previously, but with the addition of blinkers today I was very happy with the horse cantering to the gates,” Lloyd said.
“I just kept him nice and happy as he doesn’t win out of turn. The race panned out well for him as he has a good turn of foot on him on his day and they went very steady.
“I needed a bit of luck as we straightened but I did and he won that race quite easily.”
The four-year-old has now won four races and more than A$290,000 for owners OTI Racing and partners following his private purchase.
Step Aside was successful in his only trial on the synthetic track at Cambridge as a three-year-old for trainer Ralph Manning, who bought him off Gavelhouse for just $2,300, before relocating to Sydney.
He is out of the Roc De Cambes mare Teena Rox whose dam is a sister to the G2 Brisbane Cup winner Crossyurheart.
