Patience Rewarded in Hong Kong

Good things come to those who wait as the connections of Reliable Profit found to their joy at Sha Tin on Sunday evening.

The well-related Westbury Stud graduate had been a multiple placegetter in Hong Kong before he broke his maiden over 1650 metres.

Trained by Danny Shum and ridden by Hugh Bowman, the son of farm resident Reliable Man has a pedigree to be proud of as a half-brother to the G1 Railway Stakes winner Julius and a brother to the G1 Spring Champion Stakes third Battenburg.

Their dam is the late Danzero mare Oh So Royal whose half-brother Vashka was a multiple Group winner in Australia.

Reliable Profit was offered at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Westbury and sold to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for $330,000.

Meanwhile, Lottaroc produced a terrific weight carrying performance at Morphettville on Saturday to execute a successful inter-state raid.

The genuine six-year-old shouldered 61.5kg and finished doggedly at the end of 2250 metres to claim top honours for trainer David Noonan.

A son of Westbury stalwart El Roca, Lottaroc broke well for rider Jessica Eaton and they enjoyed an economical run in the trial.

The gelding was angled into the clear at the top of the straight and held a sustained gallop in the run to the judge to prevail in a driving finish.

Lottaroc has been in work for some time, but continues to race admirably with his runs spaced and has now picked up four wins this preparation and six overall.

He was purchased out of the draft of Koru Thoroughbreds’ draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $100,000 by Paul Moroney and Ballymore Stables.

Lottaroc broke his maiden at Sandown for Michael Moroney before relocating to Noonan’s operation.

He is out of the late Dubawi mare Lotta Luv who is a half-sister to the former two-time Singapore Horse of the Year and multiple Group 1 winner Rocket Man and to Our Giant, twice a winner at the elite level in South Africa.
