Promising Swiss Ace mare Niance bounced back to her best with a commanding display over 1200 metres to win at Flemington on Saturday.
The Gerry Harvey-bred four-year-old had finished fifth on the course at her previous start after opening her current preparation with victories at Sandown and Pakenham.
“She got it all wrong last start, she was a bit on edge that day and she was a lot better this time around,” trainer Grahame Begg said.
“Going into the gate last and not being in there for too long helped her break cleanly. She got into a good rhythm from there.
“I’m very pleased that we were able to turn things around with her.”
Niance led or disputed the pace under rider Jordan Childs, who has a strong association with the stable, and surged clear to put a winning break on her rivals 200 metres from home.
She now has four victories and a placing from eight appearances and Begg is happy to take a patient approach before sending his charge back into action.
“She’ll go for a break now, and then we’ll bring her back in the spring,” he said.
“It’ll be about getting her rating up initially and then we can possibly look for a black-type race somewhere. I’m sure she’s got the ability to do that.”
Niance began her career with Byerley Park trainers Shaun and Emma Clotworthy and was a debut winner at Ruakaka last season.
She then finished fourth at Counties and runner-up at Te Rapa before an unplaced run in the Listed Mufhasa Stakes and subsequently crossed the Tasman following a private sale.
She is the first foal of the Red Giant mare Cosmetic whose dam is a half-sister to the G2 Apollo Stakes winner Alma’s Fury and the G3 Doomben Classic winner Enforced.
