Natoya Impresses at Ellerslie

Richly bred filly Natoya ran up to her pedigree at Ellerslie on Sunday where she was an impressive breakthrough winner.

The Gerry Harvey-bred and raced daughter of Redwood unwound powerfully in the run home to put her rivals away with ease at the end of 1600 metres and strongly suggested better company will hold no fears for her.

Natoya is trained by Roger James and Robert Wellwood, who have played the patient game with the three-year-old and put her aside before Christmas after she had finished third at Te Aroha at her second appearance.

She returned to run third when resuming over 1400 metres at Ellerslie and a return to headquarters and step up to a mile saw her shed her maiden tag.

Rider Ryan Elliot settled her back in the running before picking up ground across the top and the filly willingly lengthened stride widest on the track to sail home by 2.3l.

Natoya is out of the More Than Ready mare More Caviar, who now has a 100 percent record at stud with all three of her foals to race successful.

The dam is a daughter of the dual Group 1 winner Lotteria, a three-quarter sister to the dam of the former champion Singapore performer, G2 Ian McEwen Stakes winner and G1 Moir Stakes runner-up The Inferno.

More Caviar’s son of Tarzino was sold through Westbury Stud’s 2024 draft at New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft for $105,000 to Hong Kong’s Tartan Bloodstock.

She is back in foal to Tarzino after producing a sister to Natoya last season.
