Moussaieff Strikes Again Over ground

Late bloomer Moussaieff continues to make the most of his middle-distance opportunities.

The six-year-old made a winning debut over 2200 metres in July on the synthetic track at Riccarton where he next finished third in an open handicap and a fifth followed, again on the all-weather, after an interrupted run.

The son of Westbury Stud resident Redwood then finished runner-up on the grass at Riccarton and returned there on Saturday to emphasise his versatility with a hard-fought victory on top of the ground over 2000 metres.

Trained by Kezzia Murphy, Moussaieff settled third on the fence and was under hard riding from Donovan Cooper near the turn before rallying strongly to claim top honours.

“He hit a flat spot but boy he’s got some fight in him,” Cooper said.

“He is very willing and very determined to win, he really is an honest boy.”

Moussaieff is a son of the stakes performed Bachelor Duke mare Diamond Grace, whose pedigree page includes the Listed winners Steffi, Zespri Gold and Miss It And A Bit.
