Mare Turns Fortunes Around

Bacio Del Mist ended a horror run when she returned to winning ways at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Gerry Harvey-bred daughter of Westbury Stud’s Reliable Man was successful for the seventh times when she claimed top honours in the Stayers’ Cup over 2400 metres.

“She’s just had not luck whatsoever and she’s still been running very good races. She’s a really tough mare,” said Lee Curtis, who trains with wife Cherie.

Bacio Del Mist settled three back on the fence and once into the clear 350 metres from home, she hit top gear for rider Alysha Collett.

Curtis suggested that plans to retire the mare might now be put on hold.

“The plan was to go through this prep and wind it up, but the owners might want to race her for another 12 months now,” he said.

The grey was purchased out of Baramul Stud’s draft at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale by Curtis for A$30,000 and has now earned more than A$355,000.

Bacio Del Mist is a daughter of the unraced Encosta De Lago mare Bacio Del Vinto, whose dam is the two-time Group 1 winner Lotteria and also the family of former champion Singapore performer Inferno.

Five of Bacio Del Vinto’s foals to race have been successful and includes Marroni, winner of the G3 Manawatu Cup.

She has a yearling son of Tarzino and is in foal to associate stallion Redwood.
