Major Reward for Reliable Mare

The well-named She’s So Reliable capped off a string of placings with a strong performance to down her staying rivals at Te Rapa.

The John Bary-trained daughter of Westbury Stud stallion Reliable Man was given a flawless ride by apprentice Jim Chung and she was too good at the end of Saturday’s 2200 metre test.

She’s So Reliable had posted six consecutive top three finishes before she broke through for the fourth victory of her career, which also features a further 20 minor placings.

“I really appreciate John keeping me on her, even though I have made a few mistakes in the past,” Chung said.

The 27-year-old delivered a top ride at the weekend and has She’s So Reliable coasting along in the trail.

They were into the clear to hit the front 300 metres from home and the willing seven-year-old had no trouble holding her opposition at bay.

“We were able to follow the leader, she travelled beautifully and she always tries so hard. I have a lot of confidence in her,” Chung said.

She’s So Reliable was bred by The Oaks Stud and was purchased out of their draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale at Karaka in 2019 for $40,000.

She is the last live foal of the late Zabeel mare Capacity, whose first foal was the well-performed stayer Single Minded. He was the dual Group 2 winner of the City of Auckland Cup and the Avondale Cup.

The pedigree page also features the G2 Guy Walter Stakes winner and G1 Queen of the Turf Stakes runner-up Hope In Your Heart.
