Jerry Chau believes the best is yet to come from Top Peak, a four-year-old son of Westbury Stud’s Swiss Ace.
They combined to win over 1400 metres at Sha Tin on Sunday evening and the jockey is confident of continued improvement from the Benno Yung-trained representative.
“At the beginning of the season, he was a bit immature and difficult to settle,” Chau said.
“Now, he’s getting better and this race was perfect for him. He travelled well and at the 600 metres, he felt great.
“He’s got a big stride and he did a very good job. I think he will improve again next season.”
Top Peak is out of Tessica, an unraced mare by Johannesburg who has also produced the multiple winners Phillip, Paltrow and Rocastano.
Tessica boasts an international pedigree and is from the family of South American Group winners Art Collector, Crazy Moon, Distorted Legacy, Vision And Verse and Bourbon Bay.
Top Peak was offered on Gavelhouse by Matamata’s Oscar Stables and purchased by Hamish Auret for $6600.
He finished third in a Foxton trial last year for the Wanganui horseman before he was secured by Hong Kong interests and had record two minor placings in the lead-up to his breakthrough success.
