Home Affairs Filly Takes Centre Stage

A daughter of exciting first season sire Home Affairs provided Westbury Stud with their headline act during the opening session at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale.

Lot 51 will be crossing the Tasman after champion trainer Chris Waller, who prepared the sire to win twice at Group 1 level, and agent Guy Mulcaster had the final say at $320,000.

The filly is out of the More Than Ready mare Kylie’s Fame who was successful on four occasions up to 1400 metres.

She is a half-sister to the dual stakes winner Madeenaty with their dam the two-time Group 2 winner and G1 Australian Guineas runner-up Set For Fame.

Meanwhile, Lot 58 will be heading to Victoria after the colt was secured by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr for $180,000.

He is a son of Tarzino, who was prepared by Price to win twice at Group 1 level, and a half-brother to the G2 Wellington Guineas winner Cognito, also a multiple black-type placegetter.

The youngster is a descendant of the former top sprinting mare Valencia, successful in the G1 Railway Handicap and also twice placed at the elite level.

“He (Tarzino) was one of my boys I was very fond of him,” Price said. “I have spoken with Westbury about how to breed that horse, and I think if you breed Tarzino to the sharper mares you get a better horse.

“Jungle Magnate (Group 1 winner) we bought off Gerry (Harvey) for $75,000 and he’s out of a mare that had a bit of a turn of foot. I think they are the right Tarzinos, so I was happy to have him.

“I paid a little more for him than I would have liked, but he is a late foal, and he is staying here.”

Auckland interests secured a handsome filly by another top young sire in Ole Kirk from Westbury’s consignment.

Lot 21 was first through the ring for the farm and the daughter of Isabella Of Aragon sold for $100,000.

The dam is by Swiss Ace and a three-quarter sister to Listed How Now Stakes winner East Asia while the star of this Gerry Harvey family is the G1 Australian Oaks heroine Royal Descent.
