Genuine Mare Rewarded

Honest mare La Parisienne was atop the podium following her convincing breakthrough victory at Tauranga.

The daughter of El Roca had gone close with a quartet of previous runner-up finishes for trainers Shaun and Emma Clotworthy and this time the four-year-old made no mistake.

She tucked in behind a hot tempo and once into the clear she mowed her rivals down with an emphatic display in her first attempt at 1600 metres.

“There’s a big syndicate behind her so it’s great,” Shaun Clotworthy said.

“She got a good run and everything worked out perfectly and got the job done.”

The Gerry Harvey-bred La Parisienne settled three back on the fence before apprentice Ace Lawson-Carroll angled off the rail before the turn and wound up powerfully to win going away by four lengths.

“She was a bit tardily away and then relaxed nicely and kicked away in the straight,” he said.

La Parisienne was a $65,000 purchase for Shaun Clotworthy out of Westbury Stud’s draft at the 2022 Book 1 session of New Zealand Bloodstocks National Yearling Sale.

She is a daughter of the unraced More Than Ready mare Test My Resolve who is a half-sister to the South African Group 3 winner Rory’s Riviera and the Listed Strutt Stakes winner Sebring Sally.

The pedigree page also features Catbird, successful in the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes, and half-brother Danbird who won the G2 Pago Pago Stakes.
