Kerchak continued to make up for lost time due to serious injuries when he romped to his latest victory at Eagle Farm.
The six-year-old has been restricted to just 14 appearances, but his record of seven wins is testament to both his ability and bravery.
A Gerry Harvey-bred son of Westbury Stud stallion Tarzino, the Ben Ahrens-trained gelding was untested to add his latest success over 1805 metres on Saturday in the hands of apprentice Cody Collis.
He lobbed along near the back of the field before circling runners across the top and a sustained finished left his opposition struggling in his wake with his closest chase 2.8l astern at the post.
“He so deserves this, he’s just such a genuine horse and gets a lot of care at home from all the team,” Ahrens said.
Kerchak was originally purchased out of Westbury’s draft at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale by Boomer Bloodstock for A$25,000.
He began his career with David Vandyke and quickly showed his talent with two wins off the back of a debut finish before his career stalled and he subsequently changed hands for A$3000 via an Inglis Digital Sale.
“He had a couple of tendon injuries and a long break and we were lucky enough to get him,” Ahrens said,
Kerchak is a son of the More Than Ready mare Yugoslavia who is out of a sister to the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Danelagh, dam of the multiple Group 1 winner and champion Hong Kong performer Vengeance Of Rain.
She also produced the G1 Australian Oaks winner Dizelle who in turn is the mother of the G1 VRC Oaks winer Pinot.
A brother to Kerchak was sold at last year’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale to Omen Bloodstock for A$100,000 and she is again due to foal to Tarzino.
