Expat in for a Good Time

The Mark Newnham-trained Expat looks set for another lucrative autumn campaign following her game defence of her G2 Millie Fox Stakes title at Rosehill.

In her first start since October, the Westbury-raised daughter of Makfi flew the gates to lead for rider Tyler Schiller before she was collared close to home to finish runner-up.

Bred by Tony McGrath, Expat has won eight of her 20 starts with victory in the G3 Belle of the Turf also on her resume and is a daughter of the Galileo mare Utmost Caution.

However, early indications were far from encouraging and expectations modest at best.

Expat had showed little at home or at the trials before she posted a major surprise for all concerned when an all-the-way debut winner at Gosford at long odds.

She has never looked back since and now looks set to add further stakes honours to her resume.
