Red Dragon completed a winning weekend double for High Chaparral’s Group 1-winning son Redwood with further success in Singapore on Sunday.
The Westbury Stud stallion’s son was successful at Kranji for the sixth time while at home, Who Knows emphasised her staying potential with a dominant performance at Otaki on Saturday.
Red Dragon, who scored over 1600 metres in the hands of Ruan Maia, is trained by Mahadi Taib and was initially bought out of Westbury’s draft at Karaka for $20,000 by Steven Ramsay before selling to Singapore interests for $45,000 at the Ready to Run Sale.
His dam is the late Danehill mare Wandane who was from the family of the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner and successful sire Marauding.
The Niall Quinn-trained Who Knows was put aside to strengthen after her first two starts in the summer and is showing the benefit of a patient approach this preparation.
The four-year-old was a first-up winner over 1600 metres at Woodville before she finished fourth over the same trip at Otaki and on Saturday successfully stepped up to 2100 metres.
The well-related mare settled at the tail of the field before leading apprentice Lily Sutherland urged her forward 1000 metres from home.
They circled runners wide to be in front before the straight and the mare blitzed her Taking 65 opposition by four lengths.
Bred by Wanganui horseman Harry Parslow, Who Knows is out of the Zabeel mare Bello Cappello whose dam was the top-flight performer Cinder Bella.
She won 12 races including the Kelt Capital Stakes and the Captain Cook Stakes at the elite level and posted multiple Group placings during a decorated career.
