Westbury Stud principal Gerry Harvey and trainer Jim Collett completed a satisfying week following the success of Tregor over 1600 metres at Te Rapa on Saturday.
Harvey bred and races the son of resident sire Reliable Man and his colours were also carried to victory at Rotorua two days previously by stablemate Martell.
Tregor had finished runner-up over the course and distance at his previous appearance and he convincingly went one better in the hands of Kelly Myers.
The three-year-old circled runners across the top and he produced a sustained finish to win with authority at his fifth outing.
The well-related Tregor is out of the late Torlundy, a daughter of Zabeel and the two-time Group 1 winner Tartan Tights who also produced the G2 Chelmsford Stakes winner and G1 Rosehill Guineas runner-up Nevis.
El Roca’s son Martell posted the sixth win of his 15-start career when he made a successful open class debut over 1230 metres at Rotorua in the hands of apprentice Jessica Allen.
“He was well placed with the allowance, and he was well ridden,” Collett said.
“He is a horse on the up, he has only had limited starts and he tries hard.
“He has matured this time in. As a three-year-old he was a bit weak, he is stronger now, he has got confidence and is running well.”
Collett said the four-year-old may have two more runs at Te Rapa and Hastings before a decent spell.
Martell is the first foal of the Makfi mare Myrcella, who was successful on four occasions up to 1200 metres.
She is a half-sister to the well-performed dual Australian Group 2 winner Fontelina, who also ran second in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and the G1 William Reid Stakes.
The second dam Electrique was a two-time winner at the highest level in the Australia Stakes and Flight Stakes.
Myrcella has a yearling filly by El Roca and foaled a colt last season and is again in foal to the son of Fastnet Rock.
