Deserved Victory for Latrelle

Redwood’s daughter Latrelle turned her fortunes around at Trentham where she was gallant in victory.

The Cody Cole-trained mare had no favours when beaten into fifth at her previous appearance and on Saturday made no mistake over 1600 metres in the hands of Michael McNab.

The four-year-old is raced by breeder Gerry Harvey, who also enjoyed success at Te Rapa with Matane.

Latrelle settled midfield away from the fence at Trentham before she began a wide and searching run 800 metres from home and held a sustained finish for her second win from nine appearances.

“She was very unlucky at Ruakaka last start, everywhere she wanted to go she didn’t get a run and would’ve been right there, but she was still pretty close-up anyway,” Cole said.

“Westbury have been great supporters of mine all the way through, back when I was breaking in and doing Ready-To-Run preparations they had horses with me and as I moved over to racing they’ve been great.

“I can’t thank Russell Warwick, Gerry Harvey and the Westbury team enough.”

Latrelle is a daughter of the Mossman mare Fille De France, whose five foals to race have all been successful.

The dam is out of a half-sister to the G1 Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent, also a multiple placegetter at the elite level.

Fille De France produced a sister to Latrelle last season and is again in foal to Redwood.

Meanwhile, Reliable Man mare Matane won for the second time in her five-start career for trainers Peter and Dawn Williams when she was successful over 1600 metres in the hands of leading jockey Warren Kennedy.

“I thought she would be a big chance, she had drawn the card park last time (when fifth) and got back and the step up in distance was ideal,” Kennedy said.

Matane settled back of midfield before improving across the top and held a strong gallop down the centre of the track to account for her Rating 65 rivals.

She is a half-sister to the G1 JJ Atkins Plate winner Prince Fawaz with their dam Lady Paget a half-sister by Testa Rossa to the G1 Chipping Norton Stakes winner and sire Casino Prince.

Lady Paget has an unraced three-year-old colt by El Roca, a yearling filly by I Am Invincible and is in foal to Snitzel.
