The Cunning Fox looks headed for the top in a new role after posting multiple wins and dual stakes placings on the flat.
The son of Westbury Stud’s Reliable Man, who finished runner-up at Listed level in the VRC St Leger and Galilee Series Final, remained unbeaten in two hurdle outings following his latest runaway success at Sandown on Sunday.
The Patrick Payne representative had won on debut at his previous outing at Pakenham and followed up with a 12-length success in the hands of Will Gordon.
“The team have done a great job here with this horse, he had sort of reached his mark on the flat, but this seems to have given him a new lease on life,” stable representative Neal Greaves said.
“He trialled quite a while back at Warrnambool and jumped terrific.
“This was a good race, good tempo on and he stood up to the pressure and Will Gordon rode him terrific, he was very impressive.”
The Cunning Fox bided his time toward the back of the field before moving into contention two flights from home and then asserted his superiority.
“He’s pretty good this fella, I think he just enjoys the job,” Gordon said.
“I think this job with the jumping just keeps him very interested, he seems to love it.”
The Cunning Fox races in the colours of Joe O’Neill’s Prime Thoroughbreds who purchased him at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale for A$32,000.
He is a son of the unraced Irish-bred Green Tune mare Cross Rate whose half-brother I’m Your Man won the G1 Epsom Handicap.
