Cody Cole has forged a successful association with Westbury Stud, and they enjoyed further success at Otaki on Sunday.
The Matamata trainer is noted for his winning results with fresh runners and that theme continued with Swiss Ace’s son Old Bill Bone, who was too strong for his maiden rivals over 1200 metres.
The four-year-old is raced by breeder and farm principal Gerry Harvey, whose colours were carried to victory by rider Michael McNab.
Old Bill Bone had finished runner-up at his home track debut last season and was then put aside and a lead-up trial placing had him in prime order to resume.
He was tardily away and settled at the tail of the small field before McNab weaved his way to the outside and the gelding produced an irresistible finish to win by a widening 1.8l.
His younger brother and stablemate St Giles went close to a notable family double when he finished a sound third at the first time of asking in the following event.
Old Bill Bone is the first winner for Simplicity, a winning daughter of former Westbury stallion Postponed.
She is a sister to the six-time winner Trojan Warrior, also runner-up in the G1 Easter Handicap and G2 Awapuni Gold.
The pedigree page also features the Group winner and elite level placegetters Ponton Flyer and Bank Robber.
Simplicity produced a colt last year by El Roca before a return visit.
