Westbury Stud offers the opportunity to work as a Stable Hand in world-class facilities, alongside a supportive and motivated team focused on breeding superior racehorses. This role provides a great entry point into the Thoroughbred industry, with excellent opportunities for growth and development.

We are looking for hardworking and reliable individuals to join our team at Karaka (Auckland). No prior horse experience is required—just a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and a can-do attitude.

Our roster ensures you receive 4 days off every fortnight, providing a great work-life balance year-round.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Perform daily stable duties, including mucking out, yard work, and maintaining clean barns and facilities
  • Assist with feeding routines, including preparing feeds, filling hay racks, and cleaning water troughs
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of stables, paddocks, and sand yards
  • Carry out basic farm and facility maintenance as required
  • Assist with washing farm vehicles and general equipment care
  • Report any property damage (e.g., fencing, troughs) for urgent repair
  • Follow Health & Safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment
  • Carry out other duties as directed by your Manager

Key Requirements

  • Physically fit and strong – this is an active role that involves heavy lifting and working on your feet for extended periods
  • A genuine interest in horses and their care – no prior experience required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A reliable and responsible attitude with good attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills

This is an entry-level role with fantastic career progression opportunities. As you gain experience, you will have the chance to develop new skills and take on more responsibilities, including hands-on horse care.
