Sales Topper a Great Milestone for Farm and Breeders

31 January

Producing the sale topping yearling at Karaka was never something we imagined this year, but it just goes to show the unpredictable nature of the business and how participants can be rewarded so greatly and so unexpectedly.

The $900,000 price achieved by the Pierro colt from Our Squeezer was a fantastic result for long time breeders Peter Newsom, Mac Whitehouse, and Tony Wales who have had a long association with Westbury Stud and continued a magical run they have enjoyed through Our Squeezer’s dam Imposingly.

By Redoute’s Choice, Our Squeezer was the first foal from Imposingly and failed to make her reserve as a yearling. A relatively small filly Our Squeezer entered the stable of Stephen McKee and showed good ability with wins at Tauranga and Te Rapa as well as a close up fifth in the Eight Carat Classic Gr.2 from just 7 career starts. Ridden by Danielle Johnson in each of her two wins, Our Squeezer defeated a filly named Cissy Bowen in her final victory at Te Rapa, and of course we now know Cissy Bowen to be the dam of Group 1 winning 3YO Travelling Light (El Roca).

Our Squeezer’s first foal was a Swiss Ace filly named Swiss Beauty who won twice from the stable of Darren Weir, while her second foal Tamarack (Redwood) has been her best performed to date having won 6 races and A$370,000 from the stable of Joe Pride; the third foal out of Our Squeezer is Squeezable (I Am Invincible) who was a winner from the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig barn and is now infoal to Darley stallion Impending, and her 3YO is a filly by Declaration of War with Phillip Stokes.

Our Squeezer has a So You Think colt at foot and is infoal to Doncaster Handicap winner Kermadec.

Our Squeezer is a half-sister to five individual Group 1 winners including dual NZ Horse of the Year in Bonneval, Lord Arthur, Lady Cumquat, Imposing Lass, and Full of Spirit while she comes from the immediate family of Derby winner St Reims and Group 1 winner Champagne. The Newsom/Whitehouse/Wales partnership have a Pierro filly from Imposingly (infoal to Dissident), Pierro & So You Think fillies from Lady Cumquat who has a Dundeel colt at foot and is back infoal to the son of High Chaparral.
