Redwood Duo to be Prominent at Taranaki

31 January

Platinum Invador and Reggiewood can provide their sire Redwood with two very strong chances at New Plymouth tomorrow when they step out for their respective races.

An impressive winner of the City of Auckland Cup Gr.3 at his most recent start, the Lisa Latta trained Platinum Invador will use the Group 3 Taranaki Cup as a stepping stone to the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Gr.1 in early March and is rated a $12 chance in the coveted two mile feature.

The 1800m of Saturday’s race at New Plymouth may prove a fraction short for Platinum Invador with his only win under 2000m coming when winning his maiden over 1600m, his remaining three victories coming at 2100m (2) and 2400m and among his placings an unlucky third in last year’s Vodafone Derby at Ellerslie. Leith Innes will continue his association with Platinum Invador after being aboard in the City of Auckland Cup.

Another of the Redwood progeny who holds plenty of interest tomorrow is the Roger James/Robert Wellwood trained Reggiewood who was super impressive at his last start when winning by nearly 4 lengths over 1950m at Rotorua which followed an unlucky second at New Plymouth at his preceding start. A lightly tried three-year-old by Redwood from the Postponed mare Femme de Lune, Reggiewood is raced by his breeder George Dennis Nominees Pty Ltd from Perth and looks a distinct Derby hopeful judging by the way he has been running home strongly at his most recent starts.

Reggiewood is sure to start a warm favourite in the final event at New Plymouth and will be ridden by Ryan Elliot.
