Miss Federer Continues to Charge Filly Series

6 March

Swiss Ace filly Miss Federer found herself in a familiar position on Saturday after proving a class above and cementing her lead in the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series.

Trained by Andrew Carston, Miss Federer lined up for the second leg of the series to deliver a polished performance in the $50,000 Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes over 1400m followed by her win in the opening leg of the Series, the Listed NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes.

The three-year-old filly was ridden by Kylie Williams with the pair quick to establish the lead which they maintained for the duration and went on to win fashionably over All About Magic (Showcasing) and Trifolium (Krupt) who finished in second and third place respectively.

Bred by Adrian Clark’s Nearco Stud the filly was a $10,000 purchase by Carston from Bradbury Park’s draft at the 2018 Karaka Yearling Sales. Miss Federer has been a wonderful achievement for her host of owners with four black-type races to her name having won the Group 3 Woburn Farm 2YO Classic and the Listed Barneswood Welcome Stakes, earning over $160,000 in stakes to date.

Saturday’s victory doubled the Swiss Ace fillies’ lead on the points table now accumulating 14 points, while rival All About Magic sits at a comfortable 8 points followed by Trifolium and Woodcote Lass (Showcasing) with 2 points each.

The two remaining legs of the Series are the $50,000 Listed NZB Insurance Stakes (1600m) on April 4 and the $50,000 Listed NZB Warstep Stakes (2000m) two weeks after, both to take place at Riccarton Park.
