Inferno Aims to Maintain Unbeaten Record in Listed Saas Fee Stakes
The unbeaten three-year-old Inferno will look to make it four wins from as many starts when he heads to the S$175,000 Saas Fee Stakes over 1200m at Kranji on Sunday afternoon and continue his reputation as Singapore’s most promising younger horse.
By Holy Roman Emperor from the Redoute’s Choice mare Spina Rosa, Inferno was a $140,000 yearling purchase for Cliff Brown from the Westbury Stud draft at Karaka. The good looking gelding raced twice as a juvenile winning both of his starts including the prestigious Golden Horsehoe, and returned recently with an emphatic win over the same distance and running 1:09.66 without being extended by regular rider Michael Rodd.
From a physical and breeding perspective Inferno should enjoy stretching out in trip and the ease with which he has won his races suggests he is still untapped as to the quality of rivals he will handle and extent of his distant range, but many a good judge in Singapore have him ranked at the top of his generation at this early stage.
Spina Rosa is a daughter of the Woodman mare Gypsy Geena, who in turn is a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner Lotteria (Redoute’s Choice) and the Group 1 place Rose of Sharon, and is a direct descendent of the grand racemare Bellota who won a Avondale Cup, Ladies Mile (Eight Carat Classic), Foxbridge Plate, Coongy Handicap, and recorded Group 1 placings in the WS Cox Plate, Toorak Handicap, & George Adams Handicap.
