Tarzino Trophy Gr.1, 1400m, Hawke’s Bay Racing
The Tarzino Trophy is the first Group 1 race of the season in Australasia, established in 2017, formally known as the Makfi Challenge, and takes place in the first weekend of September hosted by Hawke’s Bay Racing. In 2018 the sponsors of the race, The Tarzino Syndicate, added a further boost to the Group 1 feature offering a free service to Tarzino to the breeder of the winner.
The stud sponsors a total of five races on Tarzino Trophy Raceday including the Listed El Roca - Sir Colin Meads Trophy, a $50,000 race for three-year-olds over 1200m. The Listed El Roca Trophy became affiliated with the late Sir Colin Meads in 2017 to be run as Race 5 in honor of the number the great man wore in many of his tests for the All Blacks.
Westbury and Hawke’s Bay Racing proudly support the Cancer Society with the day officially known as the Tarzino Trophy Daffodil Raceday, and is the first of many Daffodil Racedays spread throughout the racing calendar with promotions on course to raise funds for this remarkable charity.
