Our Story

Westbury Stud is a thoroughbred breeding operation based in New Zealand that proudly offers over thirty years experience breeding and rearing elite racehorses to be competitive on a global arena.

The stud is owned by leading Australian identity Mr Gerry Harvey whose business acumen and passion for thoroughbreds has been invaluable to New Zealand’s racing and breeding industry.

Westbury is spread over two picturesque properties with the Karaka location the first to be established, and within the past decade an additional two farms have been developed to combine over 525 acres in the Waikato to provide optimal conditions for rearing quality horses – a trait that New Zealand is renowned for.

The farm has revelled in success over the years including having produced Champions such as Bonneval, Sofia Rosa, Good Luck Friend, Ruud Awakening, Grout, Buzz Lightyear, Il Quello Veloce and Ruby Clipper, along with a host of stakes winners and performers including more recently Mascarpone, Miami Bound, Julius, Little Giant, The Inferno, Lord Arthur, Ranting, De La Terre, Hypnos, Mascarpone, Romancer, Music Magnate, and Night’s Watch.

Gerry Harvey

Leading Australian identity Mr Gerry Harvey has been affiliated with Westbury for the past ten years having taken ownership of the stud in 2009.

The stud, while housing six commercial stallions and rearing the annual yearling crop, is also home to Harvey’s extensive broodmare band which has grown in excess of 300 mares.

Harvey is a significant investor in the Australian market being the owner of Baramul Stud, while he is also a major shareholder in the Hunter Valley-based Vinery Stud and the Harvey family owned high profile selling company Magic Millions.
