About Westbury Stud
Westbury Stud is a thoroughbred breeding operation based in New Zealand that proudly offers over twenty years’ experience breeding and rearing elite racehorses to be competitive on a global arena.
The stud is owned by leading Australian identity Mr Gerry Harvey whose business acumen and passion for thoroughbreds has been invaluable to New Zealand’s racing and breeding industry.
Westbury is spread over two picturesque properties with the Karaka location the first to be established, and within the past decade an additional two farms have been developed in the Waikato to provide optimal conditions for rearing quality horses – a trait that New Zealand is renowned for.
Westbury Karaka is based on 212 acres just 30 minutes from the CBD of Auckland City and less then 10 minutes from New Zealand Bloodstock’s world class selling facility. The property was designed specifically for a thoroughbred breeding operation and is renowned for being one of New Zealand’s most modern complexes with post and rail fencing throughout and can house up to ten stallions at any one time. The Karaka property is also where the annual yearling crop is prepared for the major yearling sales throughout Australasia with over 130 yearlings to be sold each year.
Westbury Waikato is set on a magnificent property on the “Golden Mile” of Matamata’s leading stud farms and stables, providing the perfect partner for the Karaka base. Spread over 300 acres of prime Waikato farmland the lush conditions provide the ideal location to rear thoroughbreds and is home to Harvey's extensive broodmare band which now totals in excess of 300 mares and provides an all-encompassing foaling unit to complete the breeding operation.
